About Sean
Growing up in Buffalo
Sean grew up in Buffalo, one of the five children of Dr. Dennis and Kathleen Weppner and the seventh generation of the family in the city since 1834. Medicine ran in the family. His father is an obstetrician, and his grandfather, Dr. David F. Weppner, was chief of pediatrics at Sisters Hospital. Sean went to high school at St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute, the Christian Brothers' school on Kenmore Avenue.
UB
He stayed in Buffalo for college, earning a B.S. in computer science and a B.A. in mathematics at the University at Buffalo, and remained involved after he graduated. In 2015 he became the founding chairman of the Young Alumni Advisory Board at UB's School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, building the board from the ground up to connect the school with its newest graduates. He also served on the school's Dean's Advisory Council, working directly with the dean and reporting to UB's president, Satish K. Tripathi.
Washington, DC
His career began in 2010 as a software engineer working for the government as a data scientist in the early days of “big data.” He spent most of the next decade around Washington, D.C., where he led AI and data science teams at Booz Allen Hamilton for clients in the Defense and Intelligence communities. He then left government work to join Nisos, and spearheaded growth and eventually its $7 million fundraise as the company grew from 4 people to 70. After Nisos he turned to launching and running startups, ranging from retail to fintech, and consulting with companies looking to leverage AI to solve big problems like Cyber and Law.
Back home
Since 2024 he has been back in Buffalo, where he has been helping a local retail business grow from three locations to six. He also keeps building his consulting business, with legal tech and AI as a growing area of expertise. In 2026 he pulled together this family history and dedicated it to his father.
